1. Figuring out the point guard situation

The Detroit Pistons need to figure out what their plan is at point guard. After leading them to the playoffs a year ago, Reggie Jackson regressed following an injury. The poor play of Jackson lead to speculation that his time in Detroit may not be much longer. If the Pistons are not sold on Jackson they need to find a trade partner immediately so that they can focus on finding his replacement. However, the best option is to keep Jackson and hope he bounces back.

Ish Smith played surprisingly well last season. However, he’s not the long-term answer at point guard. Ideally, the Pistons are able to find a trade partner willing to take on Smith’s contract while his value is high.

If the Pistons are able to move Smith, they should target Darren Collison. The soon to be 30-year has bounced around a bit during his career, but he is a quality player who could push Jackson as a starter. Signing Collison would Van Gundy to play lineups with two ball-handlers and take some pressure off of Jackson. Addition Collison would help solve the Pistons’ 3-point shooting woes. The former UCLA player shot 41.7 percent from downtown last season and is a career 38 percent shooter.
