As bizarre as it sounds, a Mario + Rabbids RPG is officially happening and it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. It sounds like a ton of fun.

Before the launch of the Nintendo Switch in March, there were rumors going around about a Mario and Rabbids crossover game. We were quick to dismiss these rumors since, at the time, the chances of this happening were very slim. However, according to Kotaku, this game is actually happening. It is known as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. A few details on the game have been revealed as well.

As you can tell by the name itself, this game will bring together the iconic character, Mario, and the Rabbids, who made their debut in Rayman: Raving Rabbids on the Nintendo Wii. They eventually starred in their very own games, animated series, etc. Ubisoft will be developing the game using the Snowdrop engine. One thing we know is that the game will be visually pleasing.

Being pegged as an RPG (role-playing game), further details reveal that the game will have turn-based combat. Apparently, there are images and concept art of the game but they have yet to make an appearance online. We won’t get our hopes up for an online multiplayer mode, but there will be local co-op.

When it comes to which characters will be playable, so far there are reportedly eight. You can play as Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi. The other four are Rabbids in costumes of these same characters. It all sounds too good (and bad) to be true, but we’re willing to give it a chance.

We’ve had some fun with the Rabbids games in the past. There’s also no denying the success of Mario, who’s the face of the video game industry, in our opinion. If this is true, we’re sure we’ll see some more information at E3 2017.
