NBA Free Agency 2017: 5 offseason needs for the Miami Heat

1. Will Bosh ever get to play on an NBA court ever again?
It’s time for the Heat to do what they’ve been avoiding all season: waiving Chris Bosh. It’s time to apply for his contract to be removed from the cap. It’s time for Miami to disassociate themselves with Bosh. It’s time.
Bosh has had quite the career in Miami. He started out on a high note: making it to the NBA Finals in his first year with the team and winning two NBA Finals in his time with the team. Then, things started to go downhill. Once LeBron went back to Cleveland, Bosh was signed to a lucrative max contract worth $118,705,300 to be paid out to him over the next five years. At the time, this seemed to be a good deal on Pat Riley’s part. Not only are you keeping around some semblance of the championship team besides Dwyane Wade, but you can keep building around Bosh to win another championship. And that’s exactly what he did.
Riley aggressively went after Goran Dragic and found Hassan Whiteside to pair with Bosh in the front court. The Heat’s future starting lineup would consist of Dragic, Wade, Luol Deng, Bosh, and Whiteside. On paper, this was one of the scariest starting five’s in the league.
Then, everything went sideways.
Bosh was diagnosed with blood clots and it was uncertain if he would ever play another game of basketball with the Heat. He tried, but he was unsuccessful. It has been a full year since Bosh has played a game in a Heat uniform, and it’s time for the Heat to move on.
