$9,000 – $10,000

Jason Day ($10,000): With a lot of time off and a not-so-great track record thus far in 2017, Day is most definitely a recent pick. However, we all know what the Aussie is capable of when he’s at his best and you can never count him out when it comes to finding that form. What’s more, he’s the defending champion at The PLAYERS, making him an even more intriguing potential contrarian play.

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,700): Other than the Zurich (a T32 finish with Hideto Tanihara), the last tournament Matsuyama played in was The Masters, where he finished 11th. He’s one of the best ball-strikers on the tour, which we’ve already said is a key component of a player’s game when it comes to having success at Sawgrass. He should have a nice four-day showing this weekend.

Jon Rahm ($9,600): The price is still high, but this is actually a steal considering the way that Rahm has been playing. If Dustin Johnson is 1A as far as the hottest players right now on the PGA Tour, Rahm is most definitely 1B. He has five top-10 finishes in eight tournaments played and should be able to add another at The PLAYERS. It’s his first time at Sawgrass for the tournament, but being a rook hasn’t stopped him to this point.

Rickie Fowler ($9,300): Fowler has quietly been another player who’s been red-hot in the 2017 season. His last six finishes have seen three top-five finishes, and no finish lower than tied for 16th. That doesn’t include missing the cut at the Zurich Classic, but that’s a weird outlier given the format. Thus, Fowler should definitely be considered on DraftKings.
