4. Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams

Without a first round pick after moving up to draft Jared Goff last year, the Rams made Everett their first selection in the second round (pick 44 overall). New head coach Sean McVay has told Everett he wants the rookie to be “his new Jordan Reed”, and this should signify his involvement in the passing game. Last year’s fourth round pick Tyler Higbee will play, but does not have the same dynamism as the South Alabama star who showed up strong at the NFL combine.

Right now, the Los Angeles offense is devoid of standouts, with uninspiring veterans Robert Woods and Tavon Austin due to start on the outside. Receivers Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds were also added as Goff needs more weapons around him, but Everett will be given every opportunity to fight for targets from the get-go. He’s the best receiving tight end on the roster immediately, and could actually line up outside to offer some size against smaller defensive backs.

Forget the knocks against rookies at the position. This year’s group is talented enough to slot straight in and make an impact, and Everett is no exception. Despite the number of weapons the team has added this offseason, there’s no reason to believe Everett can’t be a beneficiary and develop a rapport with Goff early.
