Le'Veon Bell

Running Back, Pittsburgh Steelers

While it is easy to put a popular quarterback on the cover of a video game like Madden, finding the right non-signal caller on the cover is significantly more difficult. A popular position to frequently grace the cover of Madden has been running back. Why not put Pittsburgh Steelers tailback Le’Veon Bell on the cover?

When on the field, Bell is the most gifted runner in the game. His ability to literally stop mid-run in the backfield is not replicable, but only adds more intrigue to his all-around dominant running style. In a pass-first league, it is increasingly harder to find a true bell-cow back.

Since Bell can do everything in the Steelers backfield, he’s an easy choice to put him on the cover of Madden 18 if EA Sports wanted to go tailback. Bell is coming off his second Pro Bowl season, one where he rushed for 1,268 yards and seven touchdowns on 261 carries. He also had 75 receptions for 616 yards and two touchdowns as a pass-catcher. Keep in mind that he did this in only 12 regular season games.

Then again, that’s probably why Bell is not gracing the cover of Madden 18. He has twice been suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy That’s not really a great message at home for the kids that live to play Madden. If he plays all 16 in 2017 and dominates, Bell is a prime candidate to be on the cover of Madden NFL 19.
