The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Ottawa Senators in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday, May 13.
After defeating the Washington Capitals in game 7, the Penguins return home to host the Ottawa Senators in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Ottawa is heavy underdogs entering the series. In the regular season, the Senators finished 13 points behind Pittsburgh. However, in the playoffs, Ottawa has upset the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers. The Senators have already won five games in overtime. Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson is one of the leaders for the Conn Smythe Trophy. Karlsson is averaging almost 29 minutes of ice time per game and has 13 points in 12 games.
Pittsburgh almost blew a 3-1 series lead to the Capitals but went into Washington and shutout the Capitals 2-0. After being benched a year ago in the Penguins run to the Stanley Cup, goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has been fantastic this year, posting a 92.7 save percentage. Offensively, Pittsburgh big four forwards are scoring in bunches. Evgeni Malkin leads the playoffs with 18 points and Jake Guentzel is the leader with nine goals. While Sidney Crosby has 14 points and Phil Kessel has 13 points. If all four continue to produce, Pittsburgh will advance to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final.
