Veteran TV and movie actor Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of 68

Powers Boothe may or may not be a name you recognize, but odds are you’ve seen him on the big or small screen sometime in your life.  He’s been featured in various roles on both the big and small screen since the late 70s. Sadly we won’t be seeing him on either of those as it has been confirmed that Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of 68 of natural causes in his sleep according to representatives, via The Hollywood Reporter.

The first news of this broke from fellow actor and close friend Beau Bridges, Many thought it was a hoax until the news was confirmed later in the day:

Powers Boothe is arguably best known for roles such as Phillip Marlowe in the series Phillip Marlowe, Private Eye and Cy Tolliver in the HBO western series Deadwood. Most recently he had a recurring role on as Gideon Malick on the ABC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which just recently had been renewed for a fifth season.

According to Boothe’s rep, a private service for the actor will be held in his home state of Texas. A memorial celebration for the actor is also being considered.

Powers Boothe was a tremendous presence in just about every role he played, no matter how big or small. As a big comic nerd, my personal favorite role of his was actually as Gorilla Grodd in the animated Justice League cartoon that aired in the early 2000s. Grodd has been pretty well-represented in the Flash television series on the CW as of late, but Powers Boothe voice will always be what I think Gorilla Grodd should sound like. My condolences to his friends and family.
