AL Wild Card Standings

Baltimore Orioles (22-14, .611, +2.5)

Far from flashy, the Orioles continue to be a factor in both the AL East and the AL Wild Card race. Four straight losses on the road have provided a first big bump in the road for Baltimore, however, including a puzzling three-game sweep at the hands of the Royals over the weekend.

Dylan Bundy looks like a Cy Young candidate, Wade Miley has been surprisingly strong, and the return of Chris Tillman added some much needed depth to the starting rotation. With seven home runs and 20 RBI (second to Manny Machado for the team lead in both categories), Trey Mancini would get some Rookie of the Year love if not for Aaron Judge’s MVP-level performance so far.

Cleveland Indians (20-17, .541, – GB)

A sub-.500 week cost the Indians possession of first place in the AL Central, but the Tribe is still in a good position to make the postseason. Andrew Miller and Cody Allen give Cleveland a dynamic late-inning tandem, though Zach McAllister, Bryan Shaw and Boone Logan have also been great, helping the Indians post an MLB best 1.92 bullpen ERA. Other than Carlos Carrasco, the starting rotation has been an issue, however.

Boston Red Sox (19-18, .514, 1.0 GB)

Detroit Tigers (18-18, .500, 1.5 GB)

Los Angeles Angels (20-21, .488, 2.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (19-20, .487, 2.0 GB)

Chicago White Sox (17-19, .472, 2.0 GB)

Tampa Bay Rays (19-22, .463, 3.0 GB)

Seattle Mariners (18-21, .462, 3.0 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (17-22, .436, 4.0 GB)

Kansas City Royals (16-21, .432, 4.0 GB)

Oakland Athletics (16-22, .421, 4.5 GB)

The AL Wild Card race grew much tighter over the past seven days. The Blue Jays and Royals entered the week six and 6.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot, respectively, but both gained at least two full games by the end of the weekend.
