1. Upgrade Bullpen

As I mentioned earlier, the Cardinals bullpen has gotten off to a rough start this season. Socolovich, Cecil, Broxton, and Siegrist have all struggled in the early going, and it could soon catch up with the Cardinals if they do not get passed their hindrances. Acquiring bullpen help from outside of the organization may not be a bad idea. A good target to help their bullpen woes may be Ryan Madson of the Oakland Athletics.

Madson is under contract through the 2018 season, and he has pitched very well this season. He currently owns a 1.98 ERA, and has struck out 14 batters in 13.2 innings pitched. The Athletics also have a plethora of relief pitchers, so dealing Madson to help the team elsewhere makes sense. Although Madson won’t solve all of the teams bullpen issues, it will certainly help improve it.

Pairing Madson up with Trevor Rosenthal, and closer Seung Hwan Oh, would instantly make the Cardinals have one of the more formidable trios to pitch in the later innings. Rosenthal and Oh have been holding their own this season, but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind getting some help in the innings before they are asked to come in and shut things down.
