John Collins

PF, Wake Forest

Draft status: In with an agent

Wake Forest power forward John Collins was impressively productive in his sophomore season, but figuring out where he fits in the NBA will be the challenge. He averaged an impressive 28.8 points and 14.4 rebounds per 40 minutes in 2016-17. Collins spent most of his minutes at the four spot, but at the next level, he might be best positioned to play as a small ball five.

Collins’ offensive game centers around his post up game and his pick-and-roll ability. He’s athletic enough to finish above the rim and learned plenty of moves under former head coach Danny Manning. Collins is also a high level offensive rebounder and can create offense simply with his energy. Defensively, things are a bit more of a struggle as he often finds himself out of position. He’ll need to improve on that end to consistently see the floor in the NBA.

Collins wouldn’t be a traditional Milwaukee pick in that he lacks the type of length and defensive acumen the franchise has looked for recently in prospects, but he could fill a nice role as a bench player who can be incredibly productive versus second units.
