NBA All-Time Mock Draft: Which NBA legends would get picked by teams right now?
By Ti Windisch
9. Dallas — Charles Barkley
Dirk Nowitzki is probably coming back next season, but he can’t stick around forever. Now the Dallas Mavericks will have another legendary power forward to take his place in the Round Mound of Rebound, aka Charles Barkley.
Barkley isn’t going to fit well next to both Dirk and Nerlens Noel, but his personality goes well with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who can draft him and then make him post on Cyberdust. (Is that still a thing?)
Despite being a bit … controversial, Barkley was phenomenal across all three of his stops during his NBA career. Sir Charles averaged 22.1 points. 11.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his 16 seasons in the Association.
Barkley may have never won a ring, but not many players did when they peaked at the same time as Michael Jordan did. Chuck has an MVP award, and although his fit as a 6-foot-6 power forward in today’s game is questionable talent seems to find a way to flourish most of the time.
Maybe Dirk and legendary shooting coach Holger Geschwinderner could even get the Chuckster stroking some 3s in his time with the Mavericks. Even without a 3-point shot, Barkley’s ability to dominate taller players inside would make him a threat in any era. With that 3-point shot, this could end up being a steal of this draft.
