7. Minnesota — Oscar Robertson

Who better to match up with Russell Westbrook than Oscar Robertson? Divisional matchups between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder would be way more fun if the two players to ever average a triple-double were starting on opposite ends of the floor.

The Big O won his only ring with the Bucks later on in his career, but Robertson was at his best with the Cincinnati Royals, his home for the first 10 seasons of his NBA career. That’s where Robertson averaged the triple-double, and essentially dominated the competition.

In his second season, Robertson averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists per game. That was the only season he averaged a triple-double, but if you look at the first six seasons of The Big O’s career he actually cumulatively averaged a triple-double for that stretch, putting up 30.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.

The 3-point line never existed in Robertson’s NBA career, so it’s hard to know how he would fare as a shooter. Someone with the intense determination that Robertson possessed would probably have become quite a shooter though, and even if he didn’t it’s hard to imagine Oscar Robertson not being an incredible player in any era.

The Big O averaged 25.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists across his NBA career. Steals and blocks weren’t tracked until his last NBA season, but Robertson likely accumulated quite a few of those as well, even if they weren’t tracked at the time.

Fitting in with Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns likely wouldn’t be much trouble for Robertson. If Wiggins and Towns can do their best Bob Dandridge and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar impressions, then The Big O might be on his way to another NBA title in the Midwest.
