15 NCAA mascots that deserve an animated TV series
By Carly Regehr
No. 5: Traveler of Southern California
Name of Show: Times of a Trojan
Network: FOX
Voiceover By: Dwayne Johnson
There have been many re-creations of Roman and Greek mythology and history. Stories, like that of Hercules and the Spartans at Thermopylae, Hollywood would fail at these adaptations, so it might be hard to trust an animated TV series. Fortunately, there’s a way out, especially for the Trojans that were involved at Troy.
Times of a Trojan, a FOX exclusive, would do the University of Southern California some justice. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, for one, would be named as the voice of Traveler, USC’s mascot. There isn’t another viable candidate, since The Rock is practically a Trojan in his own right with his gladiator-esque physique. He’s also a native of California and a possible presidential runner for the election in 2020.
Set in the Bronze Age, Times of a Trojan would pan around Traveler’s life at that time as one of the most feared warriors of Greek mythology. There would also be another side to Traveler that not many people get to see: life as a commoner. Once the armor’s off, Traveler indulges in the simplest of pleasures, including a hobby in the fine arts.
Without any doubt, the highlight of Times of a Trojan would be the preparations surrounding the Trojan War. As the tale goes, Helen of Troy was kidnapped by a fleet of men from Sparta, who disguised themselves in a makeshift wooden horse. The most well-known Greeks and Spartans to take part in this affair included Agamemnon, Odysseus and Achilles. After a lengthy battle between the two, the Greeks would walk away as victors, Traveler among one of them.
