26. The Notre Dame Leprechaun

It’s impossible to write any list about mascots without including the Notre Dame Leprechaun. When it comes to the luck of the Irish, this leprechaun has seen just about every big moment that the program has to offer.

It’s also one of the mascots that falls under the human variety. Like Rameses, if this was a ranking of the greatest mascots of all time, then the Leprechaun would be right at or near the top of the list.

Schools that use humans without a big mascot head tend to be more famous in nature. Notre Dame, USC, Florida State and West Virginia all are some of the notable ones that end up following suit here.

However, the leprechaun is simply goofy for the outfit that he wears on a weekly basis and the incredible acrobatics that he is able to pull off. You can’t think of Notre Dame without thinking of him and that’s the story behind the legend.

There hasn’t always been a pot of gold after every game for Notre Dame, but there has always been this jubilant mascot giving his all on the field and wherever he goes. It might be a downtime for the program currently, but this mascot never ends up that way.
