23. Rocky the Rocket

When one thinks of the race to space, they think of Houston and maybe not necessarily Ohio. However, with a number of legendary astronauts that have been born in the state, it’s only fitting that Toledo is named the Rockets.

Rocky the Rocket is a fitting mascot for Toledo and before you even get a look at Rocky, the common assumption is that it might just be a walking rocket. Nonetheless, the creativity here is off the charts.

It’s one small step for man and one giant leap for Toledo-kind. There aren’t really any places to launch a rocket from in this Midwest town, but there are plenty of shipping ports that go down the river.

Still, the program went with the wise choice and selected the cooler name. After all, what type of mascot would have come out of being named after a giant cargo ship? One that certainly should have been shot off on a rocket into space for sure.

It has the spirit of a rocket, the fight of Rocky Balboa and the look of one of the goofiest mascots. This thing is near perfection and stands among the giants in the MAC conference. Let’s see another rocket try to top this one.
