Slugging first baseman Eric Thames hit .059/.238/.059 in five games for the Brewers last week, and has hit .194/.333/.328 with just two home runs in May after launching 11 long balls in April. However, despite Thames’ struggles at the plate, Milwaukee has played well enough to go 14-10 in May thus far, and open up a slim lead in the NL Central as the second month of the season nears its end.
Domingo Santana, Keon Broxton, Travis Shaw and Jesus Aguilar have powered the Crew at the plate, while a bullpen led by Corey Knebel, Carolos Torres and Jacob Barnes has held onto leads. Opening Day starter Junior Guerra has also returned to the starting rotation after spending more than six weeks on the DL, and allowed one run and three hits in 5.2 innings May 26 against a powerful Diamondbacks lineup.
