AL Wild Card Standings

Boston Red Sox (27-22, .551, +1.5)

The Red Sox entered Sunday on a six-game winning streak, and had an opportunity to post a perfect record for the week before losing 5-0 to the Mariners.

Chris Sale has carried the pitching staff so far, but Brian Johnson and Eduardo Rodriguez combined for 15 scoreless innings last week with Johnson tossing a five-hit shutout against the Mariners after a brief call-up from Triple-A. Even better news? David Price is expected to make his first start of the season Monday.

Cleveland Indians (25-23, .521, – GB)/ Baltimore Orioles (25-23, .521, – GB)

Poor play at home has held the Tribe back from taking the AL Central lead. Cleveland lost three of four games at home last week against a pair of sub-.500 teams to fall to 9-13 at Progressive Field. No AL team has a worse record and only the Marlins and Padres have a worse winning percentage at home this season.

Tampa Bay Rays (27-26, .509, 0.5 GB)

Los Angeles Angels (26-27, .491, 1.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (25-26, .490, 1.5 GB)

Chicago White Sox (23-26, .469, 2.5 GB)

Detroit Tigers (23-27, .460, 3.0 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (23-27, .460, 3.0 GB)

Oakland Athletics (22-27, .449, 3.5 GB)

Seattle Mariners (22-29, .431, 4.5 GB)

Kansas City Royals (21-28, .429, 4.5 GB)

The AL East is shaping up to be the tightest race in baseball. Tampa Bay took two out of three games in a weekend series in Minnesota, and has now won four of its last five games to improve to 27-26 on the season.

Corey Dickerson has hit .337/.380/.608 with 12 home runs and 24 RBI this season. Logan Morrison and Steven Souza, Jr. hit three home runs, pushing Morrison’s totals to a team-best 14 homers and 35 RBI.
