MLB Wild Card Standings: Red Sox, Orioles, Rays in tight AL race
National League Division Leaders
NL East
Washington Nationals (30-19, .612)
Have the Washington Nationals finally solved their biggest weakness? Koda Glover pitched 2.1 perfect innings last week, and picked up two saves, as the team’s official closer. Max Scherzer fell just one out shy of a complete game Friday against San Diego. Scherzer improved to 5-3 with a 2.77 ERA after he allowed just three hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts against the Padres. The Nats also got seven scoreless innings from Stephen Strasburg, who struck out 15 Padres and walked one Saturday.
NL Central
Milwaukee Brewers (27-23, .540)
The Brewers lost five in a row heading into Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Diamondbacks, when Chase Anderson outdueled Zack Greinke to end the losing streak and keep Milwaukee in first place. Domingo Santana hit two home runs and drove in eight runs last week, including a grand slam Sunday to lift the Brewers to a 9-5 win over Arizona.
NL West
Colorado Rockies (33-19, .635)
Though Washington’s duo of Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper still have a lead in the NL MVP race, Charlie Blackmon has a strong case. Blackmon has hit .330/.366/.618 with 12 home runs and 37 runs scored in 51 games. He leads the major leagues with 70 hits, 45 RBI, seven triples and 131 total bases.
Blackmon also has company in the Colorado lineup. Mark Reynolds has had an All-Star start to the season, hitting .320/.394/.571 with a team-high 13 home runs. Nolan Arenado has hit 12 home runs, and Carlos Gonzalez hit .393/.453/.607 from May 11-25, showing life after a troubling start.
