27. Ahmed Musa

After Leicester remarkably won the Premier League title in 2015-16, they had a little extra spending money to play with in the summer transfer window. They were also able to approach the market as the champions of one of Europe’s top five leagues, making them a much more attractive prospect to incoming players.

However, this still didn’t mean Leicester could compete with the biggest clubs in English soccer so they still had to make smart buys. Nigerian striker Ahmed Musa looked to be exactly that when the Foxes announced his transfer. Musa had been routinely scoring goals for Russian side CSKA Moscow while also scoring goals on the international stage for Nigeria. His unrivaled pace coupled with his eye for goal appeared to make him a smart purchase.

Yet Leicester shouldn’t have broken their transfer record to secure his services. The Nigerian forward has failed to impress in his maiden Premier League season, netting just twice in 18 appearances. Musa was maybe a little unfortunate, though, as Leicester’s whole team seemed to lose focus in teir title defending campaign. He certainly showed promise as he bagged a double against Barcelona in a pre-season match. However, it looks like this could be his first and last year in the Premier League as he looks to revitalize his form outside of England.

Considering the money spent on Musa he falls into the flop category. In another season, he certainly could have made an impact on this side but unfortunately for him it wasn’t to be.
