Before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL greats Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey were the featured guests at a press conference and then NBA great Charles Barkley showed up out of nowhere.

While Charles Barkley is no Wayne Gretzky in terms of how he impacted his sport during his playing days, he’s certainly a legend in the game of basketball like Gretzky was on the ice.

During a press conference before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night and after the 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers were named the greatest team in NHL history by the fans, Barkley crashed the presser with Gretzky and Oilers great Paul Coffey with a question.

“Who’s your favorite black athlete of all-time,” Barkley asked, which brought a hilarious reaction from Coffey, Gretzky and those in attendance.

In typical Gretzky fashion, The Great One didn’t miss a beat and said, “Grant Fuhr,” the goaltender on that ’84-85 Oilers roster and one of the greatest goalies in the history of the NHL.

Barkley wasn’t kidding when he said he was bored with the NBA’s postseason and that the Stanley Cup Playoffs is the best postseason in all of sports. He’s showing up at press conferences featuring two of the greatest players of all time. What’s next? Barkley in ice skates and learning how to handle the puck?

(You just pictured that and laughed a lot, didn’t you?)

He was seen at Game 7 of the 2014 Western Conference Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings, so it’s no surprise that you see Barkley at an NHL event during the biggest event on the calendar for the sport.

Maybe his next hot take won’t be about basketball. Maybe it will be that Alex Ovechkin is a better player than Sidney Crosby.
