AL Wild Card Standings

Boston Red Sox (31-25, .554, +1.5)

The Red Sox have overcome a slow start to pull ahead in the AL Wild Card race, and are quietly gaining ground on the Yankees in the NL East. Boston posted a winning record on the road last week with two wins in a three-game set against the White Sox and a four-game split in Baltimore. Chris Sale allowed three runs in the first inning, but Andrew Benintendi homered twice in the 7-3 victory over the Orioles Sunday.

Baltimore Orioles (29-26, .527, – GB)

Cleveland Indians (29-26, .527, – GB)

The Orioles struggled in May, and posted an 11-16 record for the month. Baltimore has posted a minus-9 run differential this season.

Cleveland has outscored its opponents by 26 runs this season, yet still sit one game behind the Twins (who have a minus-19 run differential) in the NL Central after losing two of three over the weekend in Kansas City.

Detroit Tigers (28-28, .500, 1.5 GB)

Tampa Bay Rays (29-30, .492, 2 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (28-29, .491, 2 GB)

Los Angeles Angels (29-31, .483, 2.5 GB)

Seattle Mariners (28-30, .483, 2.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (26-31, .456, 4 GB)

Chicago White Sox (24-31, .436, 5 GB)

Kansas City Royals (24-31, .436, 5 GB)

Oakland Athletics (24-32, .429, 5.5 GB)

For the first time all season in our weekly Wild Card standing roundup, a team other than the Kansas City Royals sits in last place in the American League. Having played one more game than Kansas City, Oakland’s 32 losses put the A’s percentage points behind the Royals for worst record in the American League. Of course, just 5.5 games back, the A’s are still alive in the Wild Card race – unlike the bottom feeders in the National League.
