2. Dallas Mavericks

As we all know, Mark Cuban loves to make runs at big name players every summer. We also know that the Mavericks do not want to waste the last few years of Dirk Nowitzki’s storied career in the lottery meaning they are going to want to grab players that can help them win now. So based on those two factors Holiday in Dallas makes some sense. But it won’t be easy.

To have enough money on the roster to sign Holiday, Dallas would likely need to clear some cap room. The likeliest method to doing that is probably a trade of Wes Matthews, but trades of Seth Curry or one of the Dallas centers would help too. But we aren’t really worried about that part. We are worried about the Holiday fit. And that looks great.

If Dallas keeps Curry, Holiday feels like an ideal partner. On offense he could do most of the ball handling and creating, allowing Curry to come off screens and find open 3-pointers. But it also allows Curry to defend point guards where he fits best while Holiday hands the bigger longer shooting guards.

Holiday would also immediately become one of the best defenders on the Dallas roster, and one of the best point of attack defenders they have had in years. Considering how weak the Mavericks interior defense is, having a player like Holiday to cut down on penetration from point guards would be a huge help to the defense as a whole. It won’t be easy for Dallas to land him but if they can clear some space the fit makes all the sense in the world for them.
