1. Denver Nuggets

This is by far the best non-Pelicans fit out there, even if nothing has been reported about interest yet. The idea is simple. The biggest upgrade the Nuggets can make to their roster this summer is at point guard. While Jamal Murray may be great one day he isn’t quite ready to take over a team hoping to compete for the playoffs. Emmanuel Mudiay has been disappointing and there is a feeling Denver may be ready to move on.  Jameer Nelson is fine for a backup but again not a guy a playoff hopeful should be starting. And the Nuggets are under the salary floor meaning they have money to spend.

Holiday would be perfect. His shooting would fit perfectly into the Denver offense run through Jokic. When the star center is on the bench, Holiday would be a great fit to create offense in the pick-and-roll. Like in Dallas he would also give Denver a massive defensive upgrade over what they have had recently. Holiday’s versatility would also allow him to play well next to Murray, Harris or even Mudiay if Denver keeps him. And based on everything we know about Holiday’s character, he would be a great mentor for all of Denver’s young guards who could be ready to take over when Holiday’s time in Denver ends.

While the Nuggets may be cautious in handing out long-term money to players with extensions for Jokic, Harris and their other youngsters looming, a big money two or three year deal to Holiday would be a huge boost for both parties. For Holiday it presents a chance to both get paid major dollars while competing for playoff berths and having a big role. For Denver it gives them another very talented veteran at a position of relative weakness as they grow into a hopeful contender. If Holiday does in fact leave New Orleans no place makes as much sense as Denver.
