Baltimore Orioles: Tanner Scott

The Orioles are a difficult team to figure out at this point in the season. They spent parts of May looking like a legitimate contender and one of the worst teams in baseball. The Orioles have dominated games against their own division, but have had a hard time with the rest of the American League.

Starting pitching is once again the main problem for the Orioles, but they have finally developed an ace in Dylan Bundy. Wade Miley is pitching very well, and Kevin Gausman appears close to putting his early season woes behind him. If Chris Tillman can round into form after rehabbing a shoulder injury, this rotation will be good enough to keep the Orioles in the hunt.

Baltimore has one of the weaker farm systems in baseball. Their top prospect is Chance Sisco, a catcher who cannot throw anyone out on the bases and will likely move to left field at some point. His bat does not have nearly as much value in the outfield because he does not hit for much power. One name who could have rival GMs drooling is Tanner Scott.

Scott has one of the best raw arms in the minor leagues and can run his fastball up into the triple digits quite easily. Left-handers who can throw that hard are exceedingly rare, but Scott has had problems throwing strikes. He has walked 22 in 30 innings this year at Double-A, but has struck out 43. In 159.2 career innings, Scott has struck out 207 and allowed only two home runs.

The Orioles have been using Scott in short three-inning bursts every five days this year and it seems to be working. Over his past four appearances, Scott has walked only seven. Still not great, but a step in the right direction. The Orioles could also consider trading rookie outfielder Trey Mancini who has shown a quick bat and passable defensive skills in left field.
