Josh Hart

SG, Villanova

Another two-way wing comes off the board here with the Portland Trail Blazers using their final first round pick to snag Villanova’s Josh Hart. The senior guard delivered a terrific senior season, averaging 22.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per 40 minutes while posting a 61.9 true shooting percentage.

Hart’s offensive game will likely grow reliant on his ability as a spot up shooter in the NBA. The 6-foot-5 guard improved from deep over the course of his college career and closed it out as a 38.9 percent 3-point shooter on 532 attempts. There are some concerns about how his stroke will translate to the NBA line, but given his volume and improved free throw shooting, teams should feel more comfortable. Hart also offers a bit more offensive in terms of creation. He showed that he can run a bit of pick-and-roll as a senior and should be comfortable attacking moving defenses at the next level.

Defensively, Hart doesn’t have the physical tools of someone like Sindarius Thornwell, but few prospects will match his effort and willingness to do the little things. He was an excellent rebounder for his position in college and will battle everyone, smaller or larger, on each possession.
