3. Ivan Rabb, PF, Cal

Ivan Rabb could have been a lottery pick a season ago — he was on most top 10 draft prospect lists — but he instead chose to return to Cal to work on his game, which is somewhat rare these days. Cal didn’t have the greatest season in the world, losing in the first round of the NIT (a game Rabb sat out with a foot injury) but the 6-foot-10, 220-pound forward had another solid year and is now ready to test the next level.

Rabb’s scoring was up a bit in his second year, going from 12.5 points per game as a freshman to 14.0 as a sophomore but a cause for concern was his shooting percentage. He went from 61.5 percent to 48.4 percent in a year’s time but he’s shown that he does have the skill set to be a good player in the NBA. He’s not the strongest 6-foot-10 guy you’ll ever see, and he will have some early problems in the paint, but he makes up for it with good hands and a nice touch around the rim.

He plays a lot with his back to the basket and is fairly efficient in his mid-range game. At first glance, his body type and playing style is similar to that of Chris Bosh. He’s certainly not on Bosh’s level at this point in time but even the little hitch at the top of his jumper is similar. He only made 38 percent of his jump shots this past season but he did make eight of the 20 3-pointers he attempted so the ability to knock them down is there and simply needs to be worked on.

His lateral quickness is also an area that could use improving. Initially, he would have a problem defending the pick-and-roll but he’s a great rebounder that could help the Bulls in that department and while his offensive game does need improvements, he could still contribute on that end as well.
