7. Francesco Molinari

You’re certainly familiar with the name Francisco Molinari by now. He’s been playing professionally since 2004 and has been playing well in a number of big tournaments over that time with 15 top-10 finishes in his career. However, he’s having by far the best year of his career on the PGA Tour. And wouldn’t it be fitting to carry that over into winning his first ever major tournament as he takes to Erin Hills?

In 14 events played this season, Molinari has made 13 cuts, which is impressive in its own right. However, he’s been consistently finishing well on top of that. He’s come in the top 25 a whopping 11 times in the tournaments that he’s played and has also come in the top 10 on four occasions. To put it lightly, Molinari is absolutely in the zone this season and should, frankly, be getting more respect.

His game has just been phenomenal off the tee and with his approach all season. He’s striking the ball beautifully and is, for the most part, making it a habit to play steady golf. With how things could play out at the US Open this week, that type of consistent level of quality could be enough to make him champion.
