US Open 2017: 10 dark horse golfers to win
5. Jamie Lovemark
Jamie Lovemark has been a professional since 2009. But if you haven’t heard much about him before, that’s not wholly surprising. The 29-year old California native hasn’t been exceptional to this point in his career. He’s never registered a win on the PGA Tour to this point. What’s more, his highest finish in the FedEx Cup points rankings is just 49th. Obviously that leaves a great deal to be desired from a career standpoint.
Honing in the focus to 2017, and more specifically his recent play, Lovemark has been quite great thus far in the season. Since February, Lovemark has only missed the cut twice in the tournaments that he’s played. What’s more, he’s registerd four top-30 finishes, which is impressive considering that he’s not played anything close to a full schedule. Even better, though, is the form that he’s coming into the US Open in.
Not only did Lovemark win the qualifier early last week (resulting in him pulling out of the FedEx St. Jude Classic), but he also finished tied for 10th at the Memorial Tournament. That finish also came after a red-hot final three rounds at the AT&T Byron Nelson that earned him a tied for 18th finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson. While he may not have the overall pedigree, he’s poised to have a strong showing in the second major of the year.
