After tons of speculation Monday night after RAW that John Cena and Roman Reigns would collide at SummerSlam, it apparently may not be the current plan.

While everyone was watching the NBA Finals on Monday night, the WWE was dropping hints left and right that there was something big brewing for SummerSlam possibly involving John Cena and Roman Reigns.

In a promo during RAW, the WWE showcased some Reigns highlights, and said that’d he show up next Monday night to address his plans for the WWE’s big Network special in August, SummerSlam. Reigns currently finds himself in a weird spot with no plans, even as one of the company’s biggest stars.

Meanwhile, WWE has been waiting on and advertising the return of Cena, who hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since his win and proposal to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33. The former WWE Champion has been advertised to return to SmackDown LIVE on Tuesday, July 4, but WWE has been calling him a “free agent” in all of the promos for his comeback.

Fans started to put two and two together, and speculation ran wild about a possible big-time match between Cena and Reigns at SummerSlam, with Cena apparently freely able to show up on both shows whenever he wants.

However, according to Dave Meltzer, the current plans don’t call for Cena and Reigns to battle in August. There’s plenty of options for Cena on SmackDown Live, whether it’s a match for the US Title against Kevin Owens, or a battle with Jinder Mahal or Randy Orton for the WWE title after Money in the Bank.

Meanwhile, Reigns could slide into the Universal title picture if Braun Strowman’s injury holds him back beyond a rumored match with champion Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. If not, Finn Balor could be an option, and the RAW roster could throw anyone at the Big Dog if WWE doesn’t want Cena-Reigns in August.

While it may not be in the plans now, or not confirmed just yet, the Cena-Reigns match at SummerSlam would surely be a blockbuster match, and we’ll probably find out for sure if it’s in the cards on Monday night at RAW.
