Chicago Bears: Does John Fox even stand a chance?

It’s not even that really hot part of the year in America, but you better believe that some NFL head coaches are definitely on the hot seat. One guy who might already be burnt to a crisp and doesn’t even really know it yet is Chicago Bears head coach John Fox.

This will be Fox’s third year with the Bears and it might very well be his last as an NFL head coach. He has already been fired twice despite reaching a Super Bowl with both the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. Not being in the know about general manager Ryan Pace’s decision to move up from No. 3 to No. 2 to draft North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is not a good sign for Fox’s long-term fit with the Bears.

Then again, the Bears have been one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NFC for some time, even when they were winning a lot of games under former head coach Lovie Smith. Add in that the Bears spent top dollar on free agent backup quarterback Mike Glennon and things could get really bad in the Windy City before it even starts to get cold outside.

Perhaps Pace is hedging his bet that either Glennon or Trubisky will emerge as a franchise quarterback this summer? Keep in mind that Fox is a defensive-minded coach and would have probably preferred a Jamal Adams or a Solomon Thomas at No. 3 in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Chicago did seem to hit on at least two of their picks last year in outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and running back Jordan Howard. The Bears will need huge years out of those two and then some to have any shot at finishing over .500. Would a .500 season even be enough to give Fox a fourth year with the Bears? He might even be a candidate for the first coach canned mid-season this fall.
