1. Jon Rahm wins his first major

Despite the fact that I think that veteran presence will be huge at the 2017 US Open, I think that it’s a rookie that gets it done. Jon Rahm just turned pro in 2016. However, he’s been on a tear in 2017 that few can contend with. He’s missed the cut only once this season — at the Memorial, the last time he played — and has been registering high-end finishes like clockwork throughout the year.

Rahm has finished in the top three on four separate occasions, which includes a win at the Farmers Insurance Open. He also has seven top-10 finishes to this point as well. Additionally, Rahm has come in the top 25 in 10 events this season. What’s more, his game fits great into what Erin Hills has to offer. He ranks 13th on the PGA Tour in driving distance and has overall just been solid with every other part of his game. Rahm’s game is suited to this course and should ultimately serve him well.

If he and Fowler go to a Monday playoff — or even if it’s just outright winning — the defining characteristic for Rahm winning the US Open, though, is just his poise. Though he has gotten frustrated, he’s proven to be phenomenal at regaining his composure and ultimately being unflappable. I think he pulls through in a big way and ends up capturing the first major championship of his blossoming career.
