Arizona Diamondbacks 41-26

Last week: 5-1
Last rank: 5

Don’t mind the Diamondbacks, who are only one of MLB’s hottest teams. They will be more than happy to continue padding their record in June against some of the worst teams in the league. With seven of their next 10 games against the Phillies, expect the Diamondbacks to solidify their position as one of the best teams in the National League.

If ever there was going to be a year for Paul Goldschmidt to win an MVP award, it might be 2017. Goldy is on pace for a 30-30 season and has an OPS over 1.000. He has finished in second place in the vote twice. In 11 games in the month of June, Goldschmidt is batting .432/.543/.784 with four doubles and three home runs.

Washington Nationals 39-26

Last week: 2-5
Last rank: 2

Every MLB general manager who has useful relief pitchers to trade should be calling up the Nationals every day and trying to force a deal while their desperation is at peak levels. Manager Dusty Baker was forced to endure another series of bullpen meltdowns this week.

There is not much Baker can do with this current group of relievers. No one, with the exception of Matt Albers, in his bullpen has pitched well, regardless of what role he gives them. Blowing a 9-6 lead in the eighth inning and losing 11-10 is never good.
