Cincinnati Reds 29-36

Last week: 1-6
Last rank: 15

The Reds have given four starts or more to four separate pitchers with an ERA over 7.00. Bronson Arroyo, Amir Garrett, Lisalverto Bonilla, and Rookie Davis have combined to go 8-13 while giving up well over two home runs per nine. The struggles of the rotation are proving to be too much for the dynamic offense to overcome.

Homer Bailey is expected to return at some point at the end of June or early July. Since signing his $105-million extension, Bailey is 11-9 with a 4.20 ERA, but has made only eight starts the past two years. It was a gamble for the Reds to give Bailey a nine-figure contract after only two solid seasons, but his injury issues could not have been predicted.

Folks, Andrew McCutchen has got his groove back. Since the All-Star center fielder’s batting average bottomed out at .200 on May 23, he is batting .400/.481/.723 with four doubles, a triple, and five home runs.

He also did this.

McCutchen is not done as an elite MLB hitter, and as evidenced by his high jump over the catcher, there is still plenty of spring left in his legs as he prepares to turn 31. Seeing McCutchen look alive at the plate should excite every MLB fan across the country. He is one of the most entertaining players to watch when he is on.
