Jimmy Butler Trade Rumors: 5 reasons he’s a good fit for Cavaliers
2. Butler is a vastly improved passer and rebounder
What’s one thing the Cavaliers will miss if they were to give up Kevin Love in a potential trade for Jimmy Butler? His rebounding. Love averaged 11.1 rebounds per game during the regular season and was able to turn that up a notch in the playoffs.
That’ll be a huge thing for the Cavaliers to replace next year if Butler was on the roster instead. LeBron would have to get more involved on the glass, but Butler would have to continue his growth as a rebounder.
Over the past few seasons, Butler has constantly increased his rebounding output from 4.9 boards per game to now 6.2 rebounds per game this past season. That’ll go a long way to replacing the 11.1 boards per game that Kevin Love was bringing down. As I said earlier, LeBron and Tristan Thompson will need to get more involved on the glass, but Butler is a competent rebounder.
The Cavaliers don’t pass the ball like the Golden State Warriors, but adding Butler could definitely be a step in the right direction. Not only has Jimmy been getting buckets, he’s also been dishing the ball, racking up 5.5 assists per game this past season. That’s on a team that features ball-dominant Rajon Rondo and an isolation-heavy Dwyane Wade.
Join the Cavaliers and those numbers will surely go up, and he’ll be a fantastic fit alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
