MLB All-Star Game 2017: Predicting rosters

Voting for the 2017 MLB All-Star Game is still underway, but we can start predicting who will make the teams based on the current vote counts.

Baseball fans have until midnight on June 29 to cast their votes for the 2017 MLB All-Star team, and while we still have some time before the official tallies are in it’s possible to predict who will make a start at each position. 

The front runners aren’t necessarily the best guys on the ballot, and that’s what makes this so much fun. So let’s take a look at the current American League and National League vote leaders who will likely have spots on the All-Star teams.

Designated Hitter

Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners is the leader with over 860,000 votes as of the June 13 update. He has a healthy lead over the Yankees’ Matt Holliday, who has roughly 689,000 votes.

Cruz is sitting on a .292 batting average and 14 home runs, but it’s his 53 RBI that are getting the attention. The only other person close to that number is Albert Pujols with 48, followed by Matt Holliday with 46.  

Based on the trajectory, it’s safe to say Nelson Cruz will end up in the DH spot for the American League All-Star Team.
