MLB All-Star Game 2017: Predicting rosters
Catcher
American League:
Kansas City Royals’ Salvador Perez (1,025,982 votes) has been leading the ballot since voting began. He’s got a healthy lead over the Astros’ Brian McCann (791,517) and isn’t likely to lose it. If anything, McCann (.277, 10 HR, 36 RBI) may get knocked from his spot by Baltimore’s Welington Castillo (.291, 7 HR, 24 RBI) or the Yankees’ Gary Sanchez (.287, 11 HR, 33 RBI), both of whom are in the 700,000s and could easily overtake McCann in the next week.
Perez (.287, 14 HR, 38 RBI) leads with those 14 home runs and 38 RBI and that makes a strong case for him to nab the roster spot.
Prediction: Salvador Perez
National League:
Buster Posey is still leading the pack with over 1.3 million votes, which gives him roughly 600,000 votes over Chicago Cubs’ Willson Contreras.
Posey (.352, 9 HR, 25 RBI) has been on the All-Star roster four times already, so it’s not likely to see anyone challenge his spot. He leads catchers in multiple categories including slugging and on-base percentage, and he has the highest batting average with his .352. There’s no question he’s the best choice of the group to be behind the plate.
Prediction: Buster Posey
