1. Houston Rockets

Houston is very close to beating Golden State at its own game. Houston is probably the one team that can actually run with Golden State and maintain a frenetic pace of scoring. After snatching the No. 3 seed in the West in 2016-17 with Trevor Ariza starting at small forward, adding Rudy Gay and slotting Ariza into a bench role could push Houston into top-team territory.

Houston has a plethora of bench options already with Eric Gordon and Lou Williams. These two provide a punch, and adding Rudy Gay to its core would only increase Houston’s scoring output. If the Rockets want to contend in the West, they need as much scoring as they can get. Gay is not going to offer much defense, but the Rockets don’t care about defense. If Gay can increase his 3-pointer shooting a tick or two, he would be an ideal fit for the Rockets.
