Jawun Evans

PG, Oklahoma State

This is a bit of a shot in the dark as most mock drafts have Oklahoma State’s Jawun Evans coming off the board somewhere in the second round, but he’s easily a first round talent on our board and did work out with the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this month. The Thunder also have a massive hole to fill at their backup point guard spot and Evans wouldn’t have much trouble playing alongside Russell Westbrook for stretches.

Evans was an elite creator for the Cowboys this season, mostly using spread pick-and-roll schemes to attack opposing defenses. He helped lead the team to the top offense in the country while posting a 33.4 percent usage rate and a 44.1 percent assist rate. He is a high volume shooter at the rim, but needs to work on finishing once he gets there as his slight frame seems to cause him some problems against bigger opponents. Evans’ shooting numbers from behind the 3-point arc are good, but on a limit number of attempts.

Defensively, Evans isn’t going to be super switchable, but he does play with the chip on his shoulder needed to battle bigger guys. He also has a nose for jumping passing lanes and creating turnovers.
