Arizona Diamondbacks 45-27

Last week: 4-1
Last rank: 6

Paul Goldschmidt is the NL MVP this year. He has to be. Over the past calendar year, he is hitting .314/.421/.532 with 39 doubles, 27 home runs, 108 RBI, 100 walks, and 36 steals. Goldschmidt is the most complete offensive player in baseball outside of Mike Trout. He has never gotten the national attention he deserves out in the desert, but that will finally come this year.

Do not count the Diamondbacks out of the NL West race at this point. The biggest surprise is that they lead all of MLB in rotation ERA at 3.53. Zack Godley, Taijuan Walker, and Robbie Ray have been more than capable support for Zack Greinke.

Los Angeles Dodgers 47-26

Last week: 5-1
Last rank: 3

So…that Cody Bellinger guy is pretty good, huh? He is the National League’s answer to Aaron Judge and has homered in seven of his last 10 games heading into Wednesday’s action. Despite spotting the rest of the league 20 games, Bellinger leads the NL in home runs with 22.

Bellinger does not quite have the high batting average of Judge, but has been just as valuable. The Dodgers are 37-13 in games that he has started. With Yasiel Puig’s power beginning to flash through again and Corey Seager continuing to perform like an MVP, the Dodgers have a very complete team.
