The Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs are in trade discussions over shooting guard Danny Green. The Spurs are looking to cut salary for cap space.

The San Antonio Spurs have been looking to shed some salary in order to create maximum cap space to add players like Chris Paul via free agency. They are reportedly looking to part ways with shooting guard Danny Green, who is set to make $10 million next season. Green has had a huge impact with the Spurs over the past few years, developing into the Three-and-D guard that everyone looks for in the NBA.

This past season, Green averaged 7.3 points on 40 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from three-point range. The Spurs’ shooting guard has been a part of the rotation since the Spurs’ championship run in 2013-14.

Oddly enough, Green was a draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009, where the Spurs are looking to send him back to. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cavaliers and Spurs are engaged in trade talks over Danny Green.

It makes sense for the Cavaliers to try and get Danny Green, as they could use some “Three-and-D” help, especially in a series against the Golden State Warriors. Having as many bodies that can defend and also shoot the ball is pivotal in a matchup against that juggernaut.

Green barely played in his first stint with the Cavaliers and was then moved to the San Antonio Spurs. Now, if traded to Cleveland, he would be a pivotal part of the rotation, especially in the playoffs and NBA Finals.

Cleveland doesn’t have much to offer other than some bad contracts — which the Spurs don’t want probably — and some trade exceptions in the case of a salary dump. Let’s see if the trade actually happens, sending Green back home to Cleveland, where he first started his career.
