Cody brought home his first world title in any organization, as he took home gold at Ring of Honor: Best in the World with a win over Christopher Daniels.

Cody has the chance to have a pretty historic couple weeks in the professional wrestling world, and started things off strong by taking home gold at Ring of Honor: Best in the World on Friday night.

In the main event of the night, Cody defeated Christopher Daniels to win the Ring of Honor World Championship in an impressive match to give the Rhodes family its first world championship in 30 years.

The match featured its fair share of highlights, but one that truly stuck out was Cody using the Rainmaker on Daniels, just a week before Cody meets Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP title. Okada has hit the move plenty of times on Cody’s Bullet Club brethren Kenny Omega in the pair’s infamous title matches over the last year, and the message was clearly sent by Cody in this match.

Daniels had some impressive offense and Cody took his fair share of bumps, too, as Daniels took his opponent right through a table midway through the match with a crazy belly-to-back right off the ring apron.

The match finally finished after Cody hit Cross Rhodes on Daniels for the second time in the match and finally locked down his first world title win in his career.

The celebration was obviously emotional for Cody, as he finally captured the world title that’s eluded him throughout his career, especially in his long tenure with WWE. Cody celebrated with tears in his eyes and the title in his hands after the match, with streamers flowing into the ring.

Cody fans can surely be happy to see him grab his world title in Ring of Honor, but he definitely isn’t stopping with his win in Lowell on Friday night. His match with Okada now pits the Ring of Honor World champion against the IWGP champ and certainly raises the stakes for a match that could go either way next weekend.
