1. Zach Collins, PF, Portland Trail Blazers

Last, the most boggling selection of all night. The Portland Trail Blazers took power forward Zach Collins, after trading picks Nos. 15 and 20 to Sacramento to move up to No. 10. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum really need help with defensive-minded wings who can also shoot the ball.

Yet, they seemed to add another big man to an already loaded front court. Jusuf Nurkic came on strong at the end of the season and definitely will continue to start there. If the Blazers want to play fast and small, it’s unclear how they can play Collins and Nurkic at the same time.

The Gonzaga forward was a backup and averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds during his time there. Moving into the NBA, I don’t expect Collins to see any playing time initially. Meyers Leonard is another player that the Trail Blazers value heavily, so I don’t think Collins would necessarily get any playing time ahead of the two.

They could have gone numerous other ways, yet chose to go with another big man. Seems to be somewhat of a head-scratching move and not a great fit initially.

60 picks up. 60 picks down. The 2017 NBA Draft has come to a conclusion. There were numerous great draft picks spread throughout the night. Lots of teams got their future face of the franchise, while others found solid role players. Teams like the Warriors bought back into the draft and found gems. Yet, somehow these five players managed to get drafted by the wrong team — hopefully they can prove us wrong.
