1. Blake Griffin, PF, Los Angeles Clippers

Ooooh boy, it’s heating up right now. Two Los Angeles Clippers are claiming the top spots on this list of overrated free agents. If you’re a Clippers’ fan, you’re praying to the basketball gods that both of these players don’t return at max contracts. With Jerry West’s arrival as a consultant, it’s unlikely to happen.

Griffin’s biggest reason for being on this list is his history of injuries. Like the featured image for this article shows, you can often find Griffin in a beautiful two-piece suit on the sidelines, rather than his Clippers’ jersey. Out of a possible 164 games the past two season, Griffin has only played in 96. I’d rather have the player that suits up on a nightly basis — availability over ability.

The Clippers’ power forward was effective in 61 appearances this past season, filling out the box score with 21.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. But he’s only shooting 49 percent from the field, with his play primarily around the rim. His play on the defensive end is replaceable and his ability to show up in big games is overvalued.

Griffin is going to make some team very happy — for like 60 games a year — but don’t complain when he’s on the sideline hurt or under-performing in the playoffs. Griffin isn’t a max contract player on a championship contender and don’t let the statistics fool you.

NBA Free Agency is one of the best times of the year with heavy player movement and the rumors flying, but with these five free agents, don’t overpay, because they will underwhelm.
