6. Rafael Devers

The Boston Red Sox need a third baseman desperately. Their best course of action now seems to be releasing Pablo Sandoval and find a replacement on the trade market. The only problem is that Dave Dombrowski blew up the farm system last year to acquire Craig Kimbrel and Drew Pomeranz. Dealin’ Davey went back to the well this winter to bring in Chris Sale.

Rafael Devers is a third baseman, and could be the future for the Red Sox at the position if they are able to remain patient. Of course, you could have said the same thing about Yoan Moncada at this time last year. Dombrowski has never been one to hold onto his prospects when MLB talent presents itself.

Devers is about to be promoted to Triple-A at the age of 20. At this rate, he could be knocking on the door by the end of the year. Devers has great power to all fields, which is rare in a player his age. Last season, he was the third-youngest player at High-A, but batted .282/.335/.443. Devers is even younger than his counterparts at Double-A this year, but has been even better. He has an OPS over .900 for the first time in his career.

The Red Sox have a good enough team to contend in the American League without trading away an elite prospect who could be their answer at third base for years to come. Good luck getting that point across to the front office when the Royals dangle Mike Moustakas.
