3. J.D. Martinez

Sluggers like J.D. Martinez, who can hit .300 with close to 35 home runs over a full season and reasonable strikeout rates are becoming increasingly hard to find around MLB. Martinez is one of the few pure power bats left in the league who can hit to all fields without sacrificing any of his ability to make hard contact. He is also a free agent at the end of the year and turns 30 in August.

With the Detroit Tigers about to age out of their window of contention and desperately in need of a farm system reboot, Martinez is sure to be traded at the deadline — even if he’s not crazy about the idea.

"“I don’t know how to answer that,” he said. “I just, I like this team and I want to stay here. I would hate to feel like I had to start over again, at this point, with a new team. I like this team and I like this organization. I want to stay here.”"

Martinez has been a great find for the Tigers after they picked him up off the scrap heap. He had a hard time finding a position in the Houston system and also benefited from a swing overhaul in Detroit. His past two seasons have been marred slightly by injury, but Martinez has batted .300 with a per-162 average of 36 home runs and 101 RBI with the Tigers. He is not so one-dimensional as a player that he could not play outfield for a National League contender.
