NFL mock draft: Don’t mess with Texas
By Brad Weiss
The Tennessee Titans finally made it back to the playoffs in 2017, as star quarterback Marcus Mariota shook off last year’s injury in another stellar season. The addition of Eric Decker to the wide receiving group proved to be huge, as Mariota nearly led his team to the AFC South title. While they finished behind the Houston Texans, they got their first taste of the postseason, and will head into 2018 even stronger.
During last season, the Titans had to go with backup Matt Cassel on two occasions, as Mariota missed some time due to injury. In those games, the Titans lost, and it became obvious they need someone better backing up their star quarterback. At No. 21, the Titans grabbed Nick Foles, who played sparingly with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017.
Foles brings a wealth of knowledge to the backup role, and was even a Pro Bowl player during his time as a starter in Philadelphia. His arrival gives the Titans a nice security blanket behind Mariota, as they look to knock the Texans off their perch in the AFC South in 2018. Foles is a solid player, and should be a good person for Mariota to team with in quarterback meetings.
The Titans are very close to being a Super Bowl contender, and if Mariota continues to improve, they could do something special in 2018. All the pieces are in place for them to make a serious run, and with a roster loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, supplementary pieces like Nick Foles could prove to be huge next season.
