Jamaal Charles

Running Back, Port Arthur, Texas

For all the talk about his career being over heading into the 2017 NFL season, running back Jamaal Charles actually had a solid season with the Denver Broncos. Staying in the AFC West, Charles was able to go up against his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs twice, playing well in both games. The Chiefs actually made the playoffs as a Wildcard team, but they gave this pick to the Buffalo Bills when they traded up to draft Patrick Mahomes II in the 2017 NFL Draft.

With the No. 25 pick, the Bills added Charles to their backfield group, teaming him with LeSean McCoy. After grabbing Dez Bryant earlier in the round, the Bills now head into the 2018 season with some solid weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor played very well last season, and could be in for a Pro Bowl season if he can protect the ball in2 018.

Charles does not have the motor to be an every-down back anymore, which he won’t be asked to be in Buffalo. McCoy is still one of the more productive backs in the AFC East, but now he will have a guy who can make plays out of the backfield along side of him. This is only going to make the Bills more dangerous, and while Charles may one have one or two years left, he should be productive with what he has remaining.

Buffalo has the disadvantage of playing in the AFC East, which means they will alwyas be chasing a Wildcard as long as Tom Brady is still in the league. Charles is going to help them be better than the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins next season, which just may lead to them making the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
