Jason Peters

Offensive Tackle, Bowie County, Texas

The San Francisco 49ers brought in a new general manager, and head coach prior to the 2017 NFL Draft, and the two men have six years to turn this thing around. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are getting their first taste of those two very important roles, and they have had some success early on. Lynch seriously bolstered the defense last offseason, and with Shanahan’s incredible offensive mid, the 49ers were actually not a laughingstock in 2017.

On defense, the 49ers were solid, thanks to the play of Elvis Dumervil, who was acquired before last season. Rookie Reuben Foster played very well at linebacker, and Solomon Thomas showed why the team spent a No. 3 overall pick on him in the 2017 NFL Draft. With the No. 5 pick, the 49ers make a move to protect their quarterback, drafting Jason Peters to be their left tackle.

This is the first time Peters has been drafted, as the Buffalo Bills picked him up as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2004 season. Since then, Peters has been to nine Pro Bowls, while establishing himself as one of the best offensive tackles in the game. His presence makes San Francisco so much better up front, as they try to be more consistent on the offensive side of the ball.

Peters will likely be in the Hall of Fame one day, and big-time offensive tackles are so hard to come by. He enters the 2018 NFL season at 36 years old, and while he may only have a few years left, they should be productive ones in the Bay Area for an organization that is definitely on the upswing.
