Why the Yankees should do it: The Yankees need to find production out of their corner infield spots. Chase Headley has been up and down throughout the season and first base has been a black hole with Greg Bird injured and Chris Carter DFA’d. Tyler Austin has come up but he is injured as well.

In Frazier, the Yankees get someone who can play first and third if need be. While Frazier is hitting in the low .200’s, he still has double digit homers and gives the Yankees even more right-handed power (and an upgrade over Carter). In this deal, they don’t touch any of the crown jewels of the farm system and Frazier will be a free agent at the end of the season, so like the Red Sox deal before this, it doesn’t keep the Yankees with someone who they have to make a long term commitment too.

Why the White Sox should do it: The White Sox aren’t going anywhere this season and need to continue clearing out some of the veterans that they have as they continue their rebuilding process.  In this scenario, they deal Frazier which opens up the third base job to Matt Davidson free and clear, someone who’s had an excellent season in his own right.

In Finley, they get another arm, albeit in the lower minors, to help give them another prospect as they continue to build up their farm system. With the Yankees taking all of the remaining salary, they don’t get as good a prospect, but are able to shed the payroll sooner.
